Move Your Attention From
Your Head to Your Heart!
Studies have shown that there are 4 ways the heart communicates with our brain and body:
- Neurologically
- Biochemically
- Biophysically
- Energetically (growing evidence shows this thru the electromagnetic field)
Studies have shown how negative (-) emotions such as anger and frustration create disharmony in the autonomic nervous system, which carries information from the brain to the heart and throughout the body.
Similarly, positive emotional states such as appreciation, love, and care create a heart rate pattern that is ordered — a pattern that’s associated with a nervous system that’s balanced and a cardiovascular system that’s efficient.

Overcoming Stress by Changing Perception
- Once we shift our perception of a situation and see it with heart-focused clarity, our potentially stressful reaction can be reduced or released.
- The HeartMath Solution allows us to recognize stress as an untransformed opportunity for empowerment.
- Some problems are hard to see as opportunities for empowerment, yet most perceptions, attitudes, actions, and reactions can be transformed with a generous dose of heart coherence.
- Stress starts out with perception.. we can choose how each perception starts a cascade of biological effects that color our next perception and reaction.
- Learning how to alter our standard stress reactions be perceiving life’s events from a place of intuition, balance, poise, and flexibility requires a major shift: from HEAD to HEART
- Stress is a matter of perception. It isn’t events themselves that are stressful, it’s our perception of them.
- Stress isn’t about just the major problems in life. Stress accumulates as a result of our not managing the little things — our habitual relations, actions, opinions, irritations, and frustrations.
Energy Management.
Sociologists say that ate be successful adults in the world today - to run our own lives - we have to master skills that used to apply only to bankers, administrators, and time management specialists. While some people don't balance their checkbooks or pay off at least the minimum on their credit cards, most of us have grown accustomed to monitoring our cash flow and expenditures to keep our accounts balanced. Why to apply these same skills tour energy management?

Appreciation in Action
You can never get to peace and inner security without first acknowledging all of the good things in our life. If you're forever wanting and longing for more without first appreciating things the way they are, you'll stay in discord. The way out (of discord) is to activate appreciation and see the wider picture, forming your life from the heart and seeing a more balanced perspective. (P.111) [Note: Work with Appreciation Lists]

The FREEZE FRAME Solution is from The HeartMath Solution book by Doc Childre, Howard Martin, and Donna Beech
The 5 STEPS OF FREEZE-FRAME
1.) Recognize the Stress-ful feeling and FREEZE-FRAME it! Take a time-out.
2.) Make a sincere effort to shift your focus away from the racing mind or disturbed emotions to the area around your heart. Pretend you’re breathing through your heart to help focus your energy in this area. Keep your focus there for 10 seconds or more. (Liza recommends at least 10 seconds)
3.) Recall a positive, fun feeling or time you’ve had in life and try to re-experience it.
[Note from Liza: Joy, appreciation, care, compassion, and love are core heart feelings, associated with regenerating the nervous system]
4.) Now, using your intuition, common sense, and sincerity, ask your heart: What would be a more efficient response to the situation, one that would minimize future stress?
5.) Listen to what your heart says in answer to your question. (It’s an effective way to put your reactive mind and emotions in check and in in-house source of commonsense solutions!)
