​VOLUNTEER - SELF-LESS SERVICE - WORK EXCHANGE

Dear Friends,

Did you know that this Saturday, Sept. 23rd we’re putting together an amazing all-day Fall Equinox Celebration in Highland Park?  

The Luminescence Sound Bath Community has partnered with The York Manor to transform the Manor into an urban health-wellness-yoga-and-sound space for the day. It’s such an amazing opportunity to co-create this day for community, well-being, and self-care.

With that said, putting together a day like this requires the support of some reliable, helping hands.

Would you - or someone you know - be interested in helping out in some way? 
I will consider your referrals if you have someone in mind who could be a great fit.
Below are the specific positions we’re needing to fill.
One (1) Mahal Seva    [for the whole day.... 9am/930am - 11pm]


"Maha Seva" means "Great Selfless Service."

Description: 
  • Essentially this position will be the Executive Producer’s (Liza / Sat-Akal’s ) right hand. We will work strongly together. Your day will start at 9am or 9:30am with me over breakfast, then we’re on. You will be “On” for the whole day until 11pm (Door sales start at 12noon. The first event starts at 1pm and ends at 10pm).  You can take breaks as needed at opportune times - and during the sound bath you will have the opportunity to relax and enjoy most of it before you will be needed to help close down the event.
  • Whatever I will need support with, you will be the go-to person I will lean into for assistance and be a liaison for the different people/activities/situations where I am not available.  
  • The day is full - with a lot of spaciousness throughout the day and in-between classes/workshops/events - AND I promise that you will get a lot of experience from it. 

Why Be a Maha Sevadar?
  • This is an excellent all-hands-on-deck opportunity to be in service. To be in selfless service (seva) in our yogic understanding derived from the Guru Granth Sahib, is to perform selfless service "without desire for reward, which reaps the benefit of the certainty of attaining liberation."  You are highly valued for your help as a maha sevadar.
  • As a result of your Maha Seva support, you will have the opportunity to learn behind the scenes operations, build relationships, and be part of the development of a brand with deep intention, expansive vision, and one that has been building its reputation in the community for some time.
  • You will enjoy this position if you are proactive, if you like to see a big vision being implemented into reality, and if you like being around people and thinking creatively. If you are creative and enterprising, this could be a very valuable experience for you.

  • As a huge thank you for your support for this day, you will receive 2 individual coaching sessions ($330 value) to be scheduled within three months’ time.​

Seven (7) Karma Yogis Positions -  
4 for the afternoon shift and 3 for the night shift

What is Karma Yoga?
It is the understanding of doing right work which is a form of prayer. It is the path of doing the right thing and seeing it as a spiritual offering. It is the act of selfless service towards others.
A.) 4 Karma Yogis for the Afternoon Sessions, starting at 11:30AM - 5:30PM
(If you want to be available to help out the whole day, too, let me know and we can work something out. This would be from 11:30am - 11pm)

Description:
  • You must be available for the entire time slot, from 11:30am - 5:30pm.
  • You will primarily be at the front desk / ticketing table to register people, collect payments, and to do so with the mindset of a sevadar, “selfless service.”  You will be successful in this position if you bring a friendly and positive attitude, like keeping things organized, and are proactive. You will also have opportunities to support individual workshop leaders in different ways.
  • Breaks will be scheduled in a way that makes sense - when things are slow or in between workshops. 

Why be a Karma Yogi?
  • If you are looking to be in community and also offer a helping hand, this would be an ideal position to be in as you'd get some behind the scenes learning, get to build relationships with those involved in co-creating this day, all while also getting to enjoy a portion of the day’s offerings. The most important aspect of this position is embracing an attitude of “seva” - which means “selfless service.”  Your support is priceless beyond renumeration but you help because you can, because you are available to fill a need, and because you know doing good works to help others is a good thing to do.

Energy Exchange: 
  • For your service, you will be able to attend the other half of the day for free.

B.) 3 Karma Yogis for the Afternoon Sessions, starting at 5:30PM - 11PM
(If you want to be available to help out the whole day, too, let me know and we can work something out. This would be from 5:30am - 11pm)

Description:
  • You must be available for the entire time slot, from 5:30pm - 11pm. ​
  • You will primarily be at the front desk / ticketing table to register people, collect payments, and to do so with the mindset of a sevadar, “selfless service.”  You will be successful in this position if you bring a friendly and positive attitude, like keeping things organized, and are proactive. You will also have opportunities to support individual workshop leaders in different ways.
  • Breaks will be scheduled in a way that makes sense - when things are slow or in between workshops. 
  • You will be successful in this position if you bring a friendly and positive attitude, like keeping things organized, like problem-solving, and are proactive. Please arrive for your position promptly at 5:30PM to learn from and receive training from the previous shift.  When everyone is settled for the sound bath, you will get to also relax, however you will still be “On” and be charged with the task of helping patrons with questions, etc.
  • Breaks will be scheduled in a way that makes sense - it’s a very laid back position, however when you need to be on to receive payments and register people, you need to be “on.”
